Comedian Waris and colleague SDK Dele have raised concerns about the level of support given to them by influential persons in the country.

They have observed that unlike Nigerian showbiz personalities who get maximum support from fellow nationals, the narrative is not the same in Ghana.

The remarks come on the back of the controversy between Ghana’s Ajeezay and Nigerian’s Josh2Funny. The former years ago started the ‘nonfa challenge’. His jokes captured the literal, unconventional approach of interpreting objects and popular maxims with physical demonstrations.

Fast forward to 2020 and the concept appears to have been replicated by Josh2Funny. The difference, according to critics, is the name Josh2Funny has given his – #Don’tLeaveMeChallenge’.

The Nigerian’s challenge has relatively gone viral as a number of persons across the globe have joined.

As Ajeezay gathers his arsenals to claim ownership of the concept, there are suggestions he could have made a mark if he had been given audience and unflinching support from countrymen.

“For them [Nigerians], their big people also support and they have a very large influencer base. If someone who is not all that into this comedy thing, you see Don Jazzy post, you would be moved to do the same. But here, if someone starts a challenge, it will stay around the comedians alone. You won’t have these big people feeling big,” said SDK on TV3 New Day.

On his part, Waris told host MzGee: “Sometimes, I feel like our big people feel big to join us do something. Sometimes, this really hurt. You do something and you do it for somebody and it turns out that the person does not even come to like or put it on the story for you to even screenshot and say he appreciated it.”
