It is said that you should not judge a book by its cover, but rather open it and read it before sharing your best ideas about it; the same is true when judging people’s academics; you cannot simply look at a person’s face and declare whether or not he or she is literate. There is a video of a local Ghanaian woman carrying items in the market fluently singing the Ghanaian National Anthem, which is difficult for many Ghanaians to learn. Not even the government sector nor all politicians have remembered this official solemn recitation of the republic of Ghana. A Kayayo/Kayaye is a head porter who transports people’s belongings from one location to another for a charge. At least 70% of the women who work in this profession are from the northern part of Ghana, who have moved to Accra in search of a “better life.” Although some of the women are illiterate, a porter has demonstrated that they are not. She was asked to repeat the Ghana National Pledge in a video that went viral, and she did so effortlessly. Many people admired her and applauded her efforts. Some commenters even claimed that some members of Parliament would be unable to recite it.
