Rappers Who Died In 2022: From Coolio To Takeoff
While 2021 saw Hip-Hop fans bid farewell to legends like DMX and fan favorites like Young Dolph, 2022 has seen an increase in the number of artists losing thier respective lives.
The industry can’t help but reminisce on the several MCs that have faded away over the past 12 months, including Takeoff, Coolio, PNB Rock, and others as the year draws to a close.
Pay tribute to all the rappers that passed away this year, from Hip-Hop superstars to all-star rookies, below.
1. Snootie Wild

Rapper Snootie Wild, a Memphis native born LePreston Porter, was shot in Houston on February 25, 2022, and died from his wounds two days later on February 27. Age-wise, he was 36.
The rapper’s Instagram profile at the time said, “Gone in body, but your NAME & LEGACY will live forever!”
2. DJ Kay Slay

DJ Kay Slay was not actually a rapper, but his presence in hip-hop has been sorely missed since his death on April 17 from COVID-19. Keith Grayson, the DJ’s real name, was 55 years old.
3. Lil Keed

YSL rapper Lil Keed, born Raqhid Jevon Render, died May 13, his brother confirmed on Instagram at the time. He was 24 years old.
While the circumstances surrounding his death were unclear for months, his mother took to Instagram Dec. 14 to clarify, “Today, we’ve confirmed that Raqhid died from natural causes with no drugs or alcohol found in his system.”
4.Trouble

The 34-year-old rapper Trouble from Atlanta, whose real name was Mariael Orr, was shot and died on June 5 in front of an apartment building.
In connection with Orr’s death, Jamichael Jones turned himself in and is now accused with murder, aggravated assault, battery, and home invasion.
5. Pat Stay

Pat Stay, a battle rapper who was 36 years old when he passed away on September 4 from a deadly stabbing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, was born Patrick Stay.
Many professional musicians, like Eminem and Royce Da 5’9′′, recalled the MC.
6. PnB Rock

On September 12, Philadelphia native PnB Rock, born Rakim Hasheem Allen, was shot and murdered at a South Los Angeles Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles restaurant. He was thirty years old.
7. Lotta Cash Desto

Lotta Cash Desto, a Memphis up-and-comer, was shot and died in Houston on September 24. She was 25 at the time.
Rapper and mentor Lil Uzi Vert attended the young star’s burial and expressed his shock at his loss.
“I ain’t even gon’ lie, but this don’t even feel real to me. I’m just gon’ be real.”
8. Coolio

Coolio, a hip-hop veteran, was discovered dead on the toilet floor of a friend’s home on September 28. The “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper and father of ten was 59 years old when he died.
9. Takeoff

Takeoff, born Kirsnik Khari Ball, was shot and died in Houston in the early hours of November 1. He was 28 years old at the time.
Patrick Xavier Clark, the putative triggerman in Takeoff’s death, has been detained and is working with a private detective to clear his name.
Tame One, a New Jersey rapper and member of The Artifacts, was declared dead on November 6, with his mother announcing the tragic news on Facebook.
“I don’t know how else to say it,” she said. “My kid, Rahem Brown, Tamer Dizzle, is no longer alive. According to the medical examiner, “the six medicinal medications supplied to him by Trinitas hospital last Friday, mixed with the pot he smoked this weekend…his heart simply gave out.”
He was 52 years old at the time.
11. Hurricane G

Hurricane G, a Brooklyn rapper born Gloria Rodriguez, died on November 6 at the age of 52.
The legend’s daughter disclosed months ago that the great was suffering stage 4 lung cancer, which finally killed her.
Grand Daddy I.U.

Grand Daddy I.U., aka Ayub Bey, died on December 13 at the age of 54. The Hip-Hop icon died “peacefully in his sleep,” according to producer Pete Rock.“peacefully in his sleep.”
